The physicians of our General Surgery Clinic achieved a significant scientific success at the 24th National Surgery Congress held between April 8–12, 2026. The study titled "Clinical Decision Variability in Large Language Models: A Delphi-Like Multi-Phase Simulation with ChatGPT 5.2," which examines the integration of artificial intelligence into surgical decision-making processes, was awarded the prestigious British Journal of Surgery (BJS) Special Prize from among over 1300 papers. The study was prepared by our team members Prof. Dr. Kemal Erdinç Kamer and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Karaali, Faculty Members of the University of Health Sciences Izmir Faculty of Medicine, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Güner, Spec. Dr. Gazi Abidin Alagöz, Dr. Mert Ercan, and Dr. Arda Suay. This research, which also attracted attention in the international literature, earned the right to be published on the BJS Academy platform.
Another success of our clinic was achieved at the TÜSEB TTO Innovative Idea Competition in Health, organized with the aim of developing health technologies. The project titled "Trocar Design Detecting Abdominal Entry in Laparoscopic Surgery," co-developed by our hospital's physicians Prof. Dr. Kemal Erdinç Kamer, Faculty Member of the University of Health Sciences Izmir Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Alperen Oğraş, was selected from 1556 evaluated innovative ideas to receive an honorable mention. We congratulate all our physicians who make our hospital proud and offer innovative contributions to the healthcare field, and we wish them continued success in their endeavors.
