A patient, whose spleen, part of the pancreas and colon, left adrenal gland, left kidney, and the vein of the left leg were enveloped by a giant mass closely associated with the body's largest vessels like the aorta and vena cava, has recovered after undergoing a highly risky surgery.

The 47-year-old patient from Alanya had been unable to undergo surgery in many places due to the high risk involved. Following a recommendation, the patient finally consulted the General Surgery Clinic at İzmir City Hospital. The surgery, carrying significant risk due to a very rare vascular anomaly and the tumor encasing this vessel, was decided upon after a multidisciplinary evaluation. Gastroenterology Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Kayapınar and Surgical Oncology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Güner meticulously performed the challenging surgery, ensuring no tumor remnants were left behind while carefully preserving the vessels. The 8-kilogram giant tumor was removed entirely, and the patient has regained health.
