A 6-year-old patient diagnosed with achalasia successfully underwent peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) at İzmir City Hospital. The patient presented to the Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic at İzmir City Hospital with complaints of difficulty in eating, esophageal narrowing, food sticking, and inability to sleep comfortably due to nighttime wheezing. After thorough examinations, the patient was diagnosed with achalasia. Previous endoscopic balloon dilatation proved insufficient, leading to a discussion of the need for surgical intervention.

The POEM procedure was successfully performed by a team led by Prof. Dr. Maşallah Baran, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Köylüoğlu, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Günay. After the procedure, the patient began eating without any sticking issues on the third day, the nighttime wheezing resolved, and both sleep and feeding problems were completely cured. This method has shown successful results in young pediatric patients and offers hope to those suffering from achalasia.
